Haven Sailing Society makes recreational sailing available to members and their guests and provides teaching in sailing to those members who wish to learn how to handle a sailboat. Sherman Library & Gardens presents Library Lecture: The Persuasive By of Orangish County on Tuesday, May 17 from 2-3 p.m. Bring together Jill Thrasher, Library Manager, for a closer look at the Sherman collection of historic brochures, booklets, and pamphlets used to promote the cities of Orangish County. For more than 100 years, Orange County cities take worked hard to lure new residents to ready downwards roots in Southern California. Cities created brochures, booklets, pamphlets, and other advertisements that promised rich soil, plentiful water, state-of-the-art roads and rail lines, all set within a perfect climate for both agriculture and leisure. They too offered affordable housing, beautiful beaches, green parks, good schools, modern libraries, new museums and many other local attractions. Often, the cities' publicity materials would highlight the ease of travel to the desert, mountains, or beaches. Filled with photographs, maps, and artwork to highlight the cities' greatest qualities, these circulars evidence Orangish County'due south transition from farmlands, to oil fields, to major metropolitan areas.
